Virtual Bike Tour of the Tijuana Slough National Wildlife Refuge

For those looking to get out and explore on your own, but don’t know where to start? Rangers from San Diego National Wildlife Refuge Complex have put together a short virtual bike tour of the Tijuana Slough National Wildlife Refuge located in Imperial Beach, California. Acompaña our rangers as they take a bike ride through the refuge. They’ll share information about things they encounter and provide helpful tips so that you can explore on your own! 

They will also provide a short guide with information on how to get to the refuge, what you might see, and family friendly activities you can do while exploring the refuge on your own. The guide will be available both in English and Spanish. The video and guide will be shared on our social media platforms.

Latinas in Conservation: Ask us Anything

Are you looking for a job in conservation or with federal government land management agencies like the Fish and Wildlife Service or the National Park Service? Do you have questions about what the jobs are like? Or how to get started?

Meet park rangers Nancy and Julie, two Latinas who work for the San Diego National Wildlife Refuge Complex in California. During this Facebook Live event you’ll have the opportunity to ask them questions about their jobs, working in the conservation field, and the San Diego NWRC. They’ll share their personal experiences navigating the field as Latinas. Information on internships, applying for federal jobs, and other helpful tips will also be included.

New environmental educational and interpretive area on Sea Coast Drive

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service has completed work on a new environmental educational and interpretive area on Sea Coast Drive in the City of Imperial Beach Government. The site features expansive views of the Tijuana Estuary’s salt marsh and includes two benches, four interpretive panels and a pair of telescopes for observing the goings on in the neighboring marsh more closely. The site is designed to be accessible to all people and interpretive signs describe species that might be seen in the nearby salt marsh, our location on the Pacific Flyway, volunteer opportunities, science education and more.

Latino Conservation Week at San Diego Refuges

Latino Conservation Week is only a few weeks away and we are planning on sharing virtual events held by Latino conservation leaders like the one you see here. We will also be hosting our own virtual events including introducing two of our newest refuge employees that identify as Latinx. So stay tuned to learn more about what we are planning.
