April 30th, 2014
The House Appropriations Subcommittee on Interior, Environment and Related Agencies will hold public witness day on April 10th. This is your chance to join with other groups supporting public lands and the environment and talk to members of the subcommittee about the needs and challenges of your refuge. This subcommittee has a major role in determining the fiscal year 2015 budget for the Refuge System.
In past years the testimony of Friends made a lasting impact on committee members that led to increases in Refuge System funding.
The simple act of requesting to testify tells the members of this committee that people care about federal funding for their refuge and the Refuge System. If the committee receives requests from the 230 Friends groups from across the nation that simple act tells the committee that people care about the Refuge System. Hill staffers have told NWRA that committee members are not hearing about the Refuge System therefore NWRA and others have concerns that Refuge System funding could be short changed.
Please, please, submit a request to testify as soon as possible. Every request will help to improve the chance that the Refuge System will see an increase in the fiscal year 2015 budget.
